Portrait of Serge Gatezh

I’m a full-stack developer based in Calgary, Alberta. Since 2018, I’ve built web applications that solve complex product and engineering problems without passing that complexity on to users.

My front-end roots still shape how I work across the stack. I pay attention to the small decisions that determine whether a product feels obvious or exhausting: information hierarchy, useful feedback, sensible defaults, accessibility, and the awkward edge cases users find before anyone else. React and TypeScript are familiar tools, but the goal is never a particular framework. The goal is to help someone finish what they came to do without making them carry the complexity that made it possible.

Complexity belongs behind the interface

That starts with understanding the real workflow before designing the screen, removing unnecessary decisions, and anticipating pain points while they are still inexpensive to fix. The goal is software that can grow without asking its users to grow more patient.

It also means looking beyond the interface. A simple experience depends on dependable APIs, understandable data models, useful observability, and development practices that let a team change the product with confidence. Working full stack lets me follow those connections rather than treating each layer as somebody else’s problem.

Security is part of the product

Security and data protection are not audit items to bolt on at the end. They are part of whether a product deserves a user’s trust. I advocate for secure defaults, minimal access, careful handling of personal data, and practical safeguards that protect people without turning every interaction into an obstacle.

I write about security alongside web development, infrastructure, and tooling—subjects that are closely connected in practice even when projects try to separate them.

Finance, from both sides of the screen

Before software, I studied the Economics of Entrepreneurship and then Finance at Bukovyna State Finance Academy, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees. That background helps me understand the financial domains my work supports—not only as data and business rules, but as decisions that matter to the people making them.

Outside work, I still explore personal-finance products with equal parts curiosity and scrutiny. I want to understand how they work, where they earn trust, and which mobile and web experiences make difficult choices easier.
